7 Interesting Facts From Dr Ambedkar’s Life That Every Indian Must Know


Dr. BR Ambedkar, the chief architect of India’s constitution was an economist, professor, lawyer and also a reputed scholar with 8 degrees to his name.
He made provisions to protect civil liberties such as freedom of religion, abolishing untouchability and all forms of discrimination, socio-economic rights for women and reservations for depressed classes.
Here are 7 facts from his inspiring life:

1. 14th April, 1891: was born to a poor family of a Dalit caste in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh



2. 1901-1904: faced a lot of humiliation as an untouchable child – was not allowed to drink water at school as untouchables were not allowed to touch vessels and was not allowed to sit in class, instead was forced to squat on a gunny sack on floor



3. 8th June, 1927: became the first Indian to receive a Ph.D. in Economics outside India, from Columbia University, New York
